Feminism kills three more, when will the carnage end?

In Atlanta today, modern American feminism killed three people. A judge in the Fulton County Courthouse, a court reporter, and a sheriff's deputy were shot to death in the courthouse by a man who was on trial for rape.

Now the question is, how does a man who is on trial and ostensibly under control by law enforcement get access to a firearm? Well this is where modern feminism steps in to take the blame. The Associated Press does not bring this to light, I only noticed it by carefully reading the story, here is how the AP characterizes the incident:

“The suspect got the gun by overpowering a sheriff's deputy while he was being escorted within the courthouse”

Now, notice that the gender of the deputy in question is not clearly stated (in fact, due to the poor grammar of the writer, one would guess the deputy was male). Later in teh article, “ Details are still being sorted out; the injured deputy was under sedation, he said. Doctors had said she was wounded in the head. “ SHE. Let's all try to guess which sheriff's deputy this sick criminal chose to “overpower” in order to arm himself. Could it be the one with the ponytail and the “Grrrl power” panties? I think so. No matter what we want to say about gender equality, it is unescapable that the one sheriff's deputy who was targeted (successfully) by this sick man was the one he knew he would have no trouble “overpowering.” Now, who wants to be next in line to let woman fight in combat situations?

One Child, One War (the risks of China's birth policies)

Here is a slightly worrying observation from the Department of Defense. "In 1999, a workshop was held on predicting societal instability organized by U.S. Pacific Command and hosted by the Center for Army Analysis at Fort Belvoir, Va. A number of analytical techniques for predicting societal instability were presented at this fascinating conference. One statistical model, indicated that when the percentage of young unmarried men in a population exceeds a critical threshold, then war is likely. Keep this in mind as you ponder the trend in a certain large country to artificially limit its number of female offspring." I remember back before 9/11, when the Chinese seemed like a major threat-I will start collecting data points on the growing "Yellow Menace" here in this space.

Illegal Immigration. Finally someone touches the topic with a ten-foot pole

Today CNN broadcast one of the best shows it has ever done. Immigration is the great ignored problem of our day. In three presidential debates, the question came up once. In the third debate moderator Bob Schieffer said that it was the single most requested question, yet somehow we only get 1 question on the topic. This is yet another sign of how the waves of illegal immigrants from Mexico and the rest of Latin America are undermining our democracy and our nation. With both major political parties pandering to the burgeoning Latino plurality in this country, we are left with few solutions and no national discussion of the issue. The GOP has a plan to bring millions of so called "temporary workers" into the mainstream, while the Democrats have countered with a plan for even greater amnesty. Neither party has brought up the issue of deportation or any real solutions that would stem the tide of illegal immigration. When illegals who may one day vote can hold our political system hostage like this, the very foundation of democracy must come into question.

We have all heard the statistics that describe how Latinos are on their way to majority status in our country. Indeed in parts of the West and the Southwest, they already are. We have a vast and growing segment of the population that does not speak english, does not participate in our national culture, and in many cases doesn't even pay income taxes. Yet they are schooled in schools paid for by taxpayers, recieve emergency healthcare provided by taxpayers, and have all kinds of bilingual services provided to them. I don't know what the solution is for any of this-although I certainly have suggestions-but the bigger problem is that this is not an issue in our national conversation. Kudos to CNN for shedding light on the topic in an election year. We need more of this.

Don't Rock the Vote

This is pathetic. MTV is trying to scare draft age kids into voting. While both candidates have disavowed a draft (even if Kerry has been saying Bush wants to introduce one, he says he wont implement one), MTV has dragged up the issue to try to get the uninformed slobs who watch “Pimp my Ride” to influence not only the presidential election, but countless local and congressional races. Let me use this opportunity to propose the solution to our turnout “problem”.

Stay AWAY! IF you know nothing, dont vote. In fact, it would be better if fewer people voted. Mandatory registration is not the answer, mandatory english tests are the answer. If you cant understand english, there is no way you have followed any race. Is a democracy run by people who have to be cattle-prodded and scared by the prospect of a draft into voting worth anything?

# re: There are worse things than being an asshole. Just ask Kobe Bryant. 10/12/2004 12:13 AM Reality

This bitch is scum of the earth. If Kobe did rape her then she is just letting him get away with it. If he did it and does it again then it is all her fault, because she choes to get paid. If the trial was too stressful her lawsuit is going to make her want to kill herself again. Everything that wouldn't not have been admitted in original court is now fair game. Everybody she slept with, the other DNA in her undies, the bragging about the sex, and more will all come out in the lawsuit.
If he didnt do it then she is still scum of the earth, for doing her part to destroy race relations in America. Also for trying to destroy a man and his family.
To Hell Katie Faber that horrible horrible slut bitch cunt whore.

Let's scare them into voting for us!

Jesse Jackson speaking at a black church with John Kerry:

"I see disturbing signs today that some of our churches have been confused by wolves in sheep's' clothing. How did someone else put their agenda in the front of the line?"

"November 2, the power is in your hands, hands that once picked cotton," Jackson said.

The hands that once picked cotton????

More on the Kerry Profile.

I don't want to pile on this article, but its just full of amazing quotes. The reporter is actually seeking to nail down Kerry on his various “plans“ that he claims are detailed on his website (they aren't).

Some of the highlights.

On his reaction to 9/11,  ''You know, my instinct was, Where's my gun?''

“When I asked one Kerry adviser what it was that voters needed to know about Kerry and terrorism, he replied without hesitation. ''That he's strong and tough,'' he said. ''In the case of John Kerry, unlike Dick Cheney and George W. Bush, he's looked people in the face and shot them dead.''” (I would note here, that the one confirmed kill Kerry got in Vietnam was of a guy running away from him-Kerry shot him in the back)

Maybe Kerry wants to borrow Bush's “Dead or Alive“ poster, the guy is trying to sound like even more of a cowboy than Bush.

We also get this gem, when asked about “what it would take for Americans to feel safe again“ he responds,

''We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance. As a former law-enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life.''

He equates the level of terrorism that is “acceptable“ with prostitution and gambling? In that case, I hope I can make sure I don't live near the terrorist version of Vegas.

"I have always had one position on..." tap water?

I hate reading the New York Times but, as I have mentioned in the past, throwaway lines in some of the stories are just fascinating. Here is an example from a profile about John Kerry's foreign policy (I think this example says more about the prospect of him leading the country than anything else in the 11 page article)

A row of Evian water bottles had been thoughtfully placed on a nearby table. Kerry frowned.

''Can we get any of my water?'' he asked Stephanie Cutter, his communications director, who dutifully scurried from the room. I asked Kerry, out of sheer curiosity, what he didn't like about Evian.

''I hate that stuff,'' Kerry explained to me. ''They pack it full of minerals.''

''What kind of water do you drink?'' I asked, trying to make conversation.

''Plain old American water,'' he said.

''You mean tap water?''

''No,'' Kerry replied deliberately. He seemed now to sense some kind of trap. I was left to imagine what was going through his head.

If I admit that I drink bottled water, then he might say I'm out of touch with ordinary voters. But doesn't demanding my own brand of water seem even more aristocratic? Then again, Evian is French -- important to stay away from anything even remotely French.

''There are all kinds of waters,'' he said finally. Pause. ''Saratoga Spring.'' This seemed to have exhausted his list. ''Sometimes I drink tap water,'' he added.

Yeah, that's right-the guy is paralyzed by admitting what kind of water he drinks.

"Soon after the regime fell, porno discs were all the rage"

"Soon after the regime fell, porno discs were all the rage," said Attallah Zeidan, a co-owner of a second hand bookshop in Baghdad's Old City. "Now it's beheadings."

Iraq isn't far away from becoming San Francisco I guess. At least they haven't started gay pride parades yet. I can just imagine guys with assless chaps marching down the street in Baghdad. But seriously, is anyone else shocked that the second the regime fell, porno came out of the woodwork? I also saw a story on how they have these big TV screens in the bazaars and they alternate between showing porn and beheadings. Maybe we need to send Mel Gibson down there to clean it up-the place sounds like its turning into “Beyond Thunderdome”

Andy Rooney, pray for him, the PC Police are probably knocking down his door as you read this...

First I will post the text of Andy's monologue on tonight's 60 minutes.

"I have a message for the 100 million Americans who didn't care enough about our democracy to vote last time. Good! And, please, do us all a favor. Don't vote next time, either. If you don't care enough about the issues, I don't want you canceling out my vote with your vote.

I'd be willing to bet that it's the dumbest people among us who are least likely to vote too, and that's fine with me. I don't want anyone dumber than I am voting. I

f you don't know the names of your two senators, don't vote. If you don't read a good newspaper, don't vote.

If you're a new citizen, wait another four years until you understand English well enough to know what the candidates are talking about before you vote.

So, if you people watching tonight have some dumb friends, do yourself a favor and encourage them not to get out and vote.

This message was paid for by the people who watch 60 Minutes - most of whom are smart enough to vote or they wouldn't be watching 60 Minutes. They'd be home watching wrestling on television. "

I was expecting a typical later-life Andy piece, a crazy old man yelling about George Bush or baking soda. Instead he delivers one of the most un-Rooney-esque monologues he has ever given - a call NOT to vote. This is one of my favorite topics, voting should be MORE difficult in this country, not easier. I think the immigrant line will get Andy fired. If it does then good for him, he will have gone down fighting. DON'T ROCK THE VOTE!

Jack and Bobby on the WB

This is unbelievable. I am watching this new WB series called “Jack and Bobby”, and apparently these two guys named Jack and Bobby are being raised by a single mother to be president. This is typical of the way that our society has fallen apart. The Kennedy's without Joe! Raised by a single mother! (They might as well have called this Roger and Bill. One will turn out to be a lousy, vain, manipulative man who is unable to control his desires-and the other will just be a loser drug addict) Also it looks like when one of these kids becomes president in the future, his VP is, of course, a woman!

So, now we have a series about how the “best president of this century” will be raised by a single mom, and have a female vice president. Yeah, I seem to remember how useless Jack and Bobby Kennedy's dad was when it came to raising them... what was his name? I cant even remember it. Joe? was that it? I guess that guy had nothing to do with raising up one of the most influential families in the 20th century. Must have been all RoseMarie ( I actually don't remember what her name was).

Well if this atrocity of a television show makes it, I don't know what to say. I just hope none of the kids raised on this shit actually becomes president. Hey, maybe that's a good reason to change the constitution to allow foreign born people to become president. This current generation and probably all after it will be too screwed up to rule the most powerful nation on earth-we need to import people who haven't been bathed in this shit:  self-esteem, equality of results, affirmative action, and celebration of mediocrity that permeates the garbage that we call education and culture.

Flaws in the reporting of economic statistics

The New York Times finally confronts one of the most insidious forms of bias in the major news media today-(reg req'd)- the shockingly flawed reporting of economic statistics. Basic economics-along with science and math- is one of the most neglected areas of education today. This has led to shameful ignorance of all of these subjects on the part of most Americans-thus they take their lead from the stories they read in the press (who unfortunately, as journalism and english majors, also shunned anything to do with numbers as they were educated). So you have a case of a land of the blind where the one-eyed man truly is king.

Two economists at the American Enterprise Institute (a conservative think-tank) studied the way that economic statistics, such as unemployment, economic growth, durable goods orders, etc. are reported in the media. They found a statistically significant bias against republican presidents in the reporting of economic news.

One example that the NYT uses is that during the Clinton administration unemployment averaged 5.2%, only 0.3% lower than it has averaged during the Bush administration-yet the headlines were 44% positive for Clinton, yet only 23% of Bush's were.

What really interests me about this article though, is that they quote a former professor of mine as their economics expert.

“Christopher D. Carroll, an economist at Johns Hopkins University who served on Mr. Clinton's Council of Economic Advisers, said the paper by Mr. Hassett and Mr. Lott was "the first serious statistical attempt to look at the question that I've seen."”

They go on further to quote Prof. Carroll- and he bashes the survey. Of course, beyond saying that he served on Clinton's CEA they do not disclose any of Prof. Carroll's other affiliations (a note, the council of economic advisers is generally apolitical, arch-liberal Paul Krugman served on Reagan's CEA). Chris Carroll worked for the Al Gore campaign, doing analyses of the voting results during the Florida recount! The NYT does not disclose Prof. Carroll's liberalism, even though they go to pains to describe the AEI researchers as “right-wing hacks”

So basically, the point is that biased economic reporting probably does more damage than your typical left-leaning major news coverage. This is because poor coverage of news events is more easily identified than poor coverage of more esoteric economic news (I am assuming that the pathetic state of math and science education in our country has a lot to do with this).
